Diffuse is composed of two elements: a wooden box that contains the electronic components, and a soft felt diffuser.

The box is entirely made of walnut wood, laser cut, engraved, chamfered and assembled by hand.

Thermoformed plastic diffusers cover two hidden LED stripes.

The Diffuse box contains:

  • Two LED stripes (6 LEDs) with associated aluminium heat sinks.

  •  Arduino Uno.

  • a 12V rechargeable lithium battery.

  • a Light Sensor.

Outside there is the power button and a switch to change the mode from Eye relief to Eye pleasure and vice versa,

Behind there are 2 magnets, used to apply the felt diffuser, and the Light sensor which remains visible.

When Diffuse is connected to the laptop you can choose one of two modes: Eye Relief or Eye Pleasure

Eye Relief mode

When Eye Relief mode is on the Light sensor placed behind the wooden box activates.

It evaluates the brightness of your room, behind your screen.

If the room is too dark a white LED light of variable intensity activates, to actively balance the contrast between the laptop monitor and your environment, thus to reduce eye strain.

Eye Relief mode is designed as a smart adaptive light for working with your laptop in a dark environment.

It can be used even while doing colour-sensitive work.

Eye Pleasure mode

This mode is designed to enhance your computer experience.

The open source program Processing, with a proper code developed for Diffuse, reads in real time the average colour on your monitor and sends the information to Arduino and the LED stripes.

In this way Diffuse works as a portable Ambilight, perfect for watching movies or multimedia contents with your laptop.

The felt diffuser softly scatters the coloured light around your monitor, so you can use the Eye Pleasure mode even without a wall behind the PC.
